Getting started

How Joy of Mags works

The two sides of the platform: readers who browse and creators who publish.

Two kinds of account

Every account is either a reader account or a creator account. Readers browse the catalogue, buy or subscribe to publications and build a library. Creators do all of that too, plus they get the Studio for uploading and selling their own magazines.

  • Reader: free to join, no plan needed, pays only for the issues or subscriptions it wants.
  • Creator: free to join on the Free plan, with paid plans unlocking more issues, larger files and extra selling tools.

Publications and issues

A publication is the title — the magazine itself. An issue is one edition of that title, and each issue is a single PDF. Readers can buy an individual issue outright or subscribe to the publication to get everything in it.

What it costs

Browsing and reading free issues costs nothing. Paid issues and subscriptions are priced by the creator. Creator plans are billed monthly or annually and can be changed or cancelled at any time.

Common questions

Do I need an account to read a magazine?
You can browse the catalogue and read free issues without an account, but you need to sign in to buy, subscribe, bookmark or sync your reading progress.
Can one account be both a reader and a creator?
Yes. A creator account has everything a reader account has, plus the Studio.
