Mature content and safety
How mature titles are flagged and gated, and how to report a problem.
How mature content is handled
Use the mature label for mature literary themes, graphic violence, non-pornographic artistic nudity or similar material unsuitable for under-18s. Pornography and sexually explicit material are not allowed, even when a title is marked mature. Mature titles are hidden from signed-out visitors and from readers whose date of birth shows they are under 18.
Reporting something
If you find content that is mislabelled, infringing or against our content standards, use the Report button: "Report publication" on a title page, or the Report (flag) button beside the reader when you are reading an issue. Choose a reason (prohibited content, unflagged mature content, copyright, harassment or a technical problem), add page numbers if relevant, and describe the problem. Reports are reviewed confidentially by our moderation team, and we can unpublish content while we investigate.
Common questions
- What kind of content can I upload to Joy of Mags?
- Joy of Mags is built for digital publications uploaded as multi-page PDFs — such as independent magazines, literary reviews, zines, art and photography books, comics, exhibition catalogues, and periodicals. You may publish original work where you own the copyright or hold permission to publish all included text, photography, illustration, and design, general audience content, and work containing mature literary themes, graphic violence, or non-pornographic artistic nudity provided the title is marked with the 18+ Mature content flag. Pornography and sexually explicit material are strictly prohibited — Joy of Mags is not an adult-content platform, and explicit sexual acts and commercial pornography are forbidden even under the mature flag. Hate speech, harassment, defamation, content depicting or promoting unlawful or harmful acts, and content infringing third-party copyright, trademarks, or publicity rights are also not allowed.
- How do I report a publication or issue?
- Click Report publication on any title page, or the Report (flag) button beside the reader when reading an issue. Select the reason, optionally add the page number(s), and give brief details. You'll see a reference code on screen straight away and receive an email receipt confirming your report has been logged.
- What happens after I submit a report?
- Every report is reviewed by the Joy of Mags moderation team against our Acceptable Use and Content Standards. If a violation is found, we may require the creator to edit the publication, apply an 18+ mature rating, or remove the title. Your contact details are strictly confidential and are never shared with the creator.
